Default Being able to change your name?

First of all, I'd like to tell you why, and then how
Why:
I created this character, rhombus ravenseer, a R/W. at lvl 10, I found out he should be a W/R, so I deleted him, created him, started playing till lvl 15, finding out I want a W/Mo. Yes, I deleted him and am now in pre-searing with about lvl 7. My other char, ranger redhead, is now lvl 17 and doing the last mission before ascension. During that mission I found out, my name sucks. Ranger redhead is a stupid name, and I want to change it, but I dont want to spend another 30 hours on a new char.

How:
There should be a name changer in town (like a guild registar) where you can change your name for like, 1000-3000 gold. Of course ppl wouldnt be able to contact you through that characters name, so I suggest that for a period of like, 2-3 days, your characters name is <old name> -> <new name>, in my case Ranger Redhead -> Something I still have to come up with. This way ppl will still recognize you, and you can tell everybody your name is being changed. ppl can contact you through both the names during that period, but after that period, only thru the new name.

I'm kinda tired right now so if I said something stupid, apart from the suggestion, that's the reason.

You're level 17 and you're just *now* finding out you don't like your name?

Wow...

Name changes shouldn't happen. When they do, it's a scammers paradise.

that's why I think it should cost like 3k. maybe even more. 5k would be nice. Its a great gold sink anyway.

Exclamation It's most likely not going to happen...

I really doubt name changes will be allowed - other than those "forced" by a GM.
Here's an example why;

"Rupert the Rumpwrangler" starts the game.
His name fits his overall persona in the game: idiot.
Besides his obvious shortcomings, He's simply not a nice player. He spams zones, scams players, destroys groups during missions, exhibits incredible avarice, and seeks to cause as much grief and harm as possible within the game. (Yes there are many players like him unfortunately.)

Because Rupert hasn't been reported or caught by a GM, (due to the large population) he escapes scrutiny and continues his antisocial behavior, but lo and behold! Wise players are on to him; and he develops a (well deserved) bad reputation in short order.

Suddenly, nobody wants to buy his wares, have him in a group, or even speak to him. What's poor Rupert to do?

Rupert simply petitions for a name change, and can now begin his negative behavior anew, unbeknownst to the unsuspecting population.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
This scenario was common in EQ, and as a guide our policy was never to implement a name change at a player's request; it was never for good reason, but always as subterfuge to attempt to cover up or escape a shady past.

Nay, the cure is delete the character and recreate.
Perhaps next time, you will spend an extra 10 seconds on your character name.

Regards,

Talesin

I dont like the idea of name changing. If just figured out that your name sound stupid at level 17, something is wrong (maybe you bought the account off ebay). Anyway, yeah if name change is allow there'll be scammers in every corners, 5k is not even enough to keep them away.

No, at the start, I thought the name was funny, or at least nice. Then In game I never really see my name, and due to that, I never payed attention to it. I really am a roleplaying guy, but the name simply sucks. It's kind of bothering me right now.maybe ill grow over it, I hope I will, but I did NOT but this account off ebay, I bought the game like everybody else, and started playing from lvl 1. And Talesin, are you suggesting i am rupert the rumpwrangler? If so, that is not how I am...

Well if you enjoy roleplaying, then make up a reason why your name is "ranger redhead." Come up with some witty reason as to why some fellow comrades gave you that nickname and that it stuck, for better or for worse. Weave yourself a nice tall tale and you will have a rich story to tell about the misadventures of Ranger Redhead.

Unfortunately, scammers get by anyway without this system... implying it won't make a difference. At the moment they normally just create char >scam >delete >re-create. Having a name changer won't make it any worse, so why deny it when some good trustworthy players could actually use it and benefit?

If you want to be allowed to change your name make your original screen name offensive to others. Then Area Net will force you to change your screen name, little do they know that you want to!

reason 1 : Freinds Lists names Would Be lost if they ever changed there char name that u used to add them or they wud have to invent diff freinds list 2: As Already Said Scammers Paradise , Like the guy i had other day attempting to buy(he means scam) my Perf 15^50 20/20 +30hp Storm Bow off me by using scene tricks etc which didnt work on me

3: If you dont like your name all i can say is get over it , ive got chars who's name i dont like, example my necro funny four skins , but char names dont bother me no more

Well... people should think a bit and do not put Asdasdas Adfgdfg as a name.

Making names fixed helps that.

Scammers may crate new PJ, but people should be aware of samming and try not to trust low level characters selling high stuff.

Sh!t happens.

Think harder before naming your character next time.

The name is the key to your character. Giving a different name would make it a different character... and thats just not on.

Admittedly... I made an Elementalist before and decided after a while that because he didn't fit my naming convention (though there was nothing individually wrong with the name I had given him) that I wanted to remake him...

... So I did.

Admittedly the only reason why I somewhat regretted deleting the old one and making the new one was that the old one was before certain updates to the colour system... and the new orange looked kinda yellowish and naff compared to the old.

erm... no thanks.

After playing my char for over a year I don't even want to have the temptation of changing her name.

You might find it silly but after so much time you almost 'get to know' your characters. If u changed their name/s it wouldn't feel so 'yours' anymore.
